Coconut Cream Tiramisu

Coconut Cream Tiramisu

This coconut cream tiramisu is a satisfying treat made with coconut cream, mascarpone cheese, coconut sugar, coffee liqueur, lady fingers, berries, and mint. It is a refreshing, creamy, no-bake dessert that can be made in advance.

We order tiramisu almost every time that we see it on the menu because it is one of our favorite desserts of all time. For this coconut cream tiramisu, we tweaked a traditional recipe of ours with alternative ingredients. We replaced the heavy cream with coconut cream, used coconut sugar instead of regular sugar, and added a coffee and Kahlua mixture that we love.

This resulted in our favorite tiramisu that we have ever made. It is creamy, full of coffee flavor, and has bright bursts of berry and mint. It’s the just right dessert to have after chicken parmesan meatballs.

Why this recipe works:

  • The texture of this tiramisu is fresh and light.
  • It has the just right balance of cocoa, coffee and kahlua flavor.
  • The berries and mint on top add our favorite burst of flavors that compliment the mascarpone cream and coffee soaked lady fingers.
  • It is simple to make and ready in 6 hours.
  • It tastes even better the next day!

Recipe ingredients:

Ingredients needed to make coconut cream tiramisu.
  • Coconut cream– Make sure to use a brand that you like the flavor of. We like Savoy coconut cream because it doesn’t have a strong coconut taste and is very creamy.
  • Mascarpone cheese– this is what gives the cream mixture the great tiramisu flavor.
  • Coconut sugar– this has a lower glycemic index than regular sugar does.
  • Dark coffee– we use leftover cold coffee from the morning when we make this recipe.
  • Kahlua– or any coffee liqueur of choice.
  • Cinnamon– this is used to flavor many parts of this recope.
  • Lady fingers– any brand of choice works here.
  • Cocoa powder– make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder here.
  • Berries and mint– strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries taste AMAZING here, along with fresh mint leaves.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Additions/ Substitutions:

  • Instead of coconut sugar, you can use brown sugar or white sugar instead.
  • Instead of kahlua coffee liqueur, you can use amaretto.
  • You can omit the berries and mint on top of the tiramisu or you can use only one type of berry.

Expert tips:

  • When dunking the lady fingers into the coffee mixture, count to 2 or 3 so they get soaked but not too soaked.
  • When sprinkling the cocoa powder and cinnamon on top of each cream layer, use a small strainer. This ensures there are no clumps.
  • Refrigerate the tiramisu overnight if you can. The flavor is best the longer the flavors melt together.
  • Adding the berries and mint really makes this tiramisu dessert that much better.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of coconut cream, (14 ounces) (Savoy is great), refrigerated at least over night or frozen 2 hours
  • 16 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar, or brown sugar
  • 1 cup coffee
  • 1/2 cup kahlua
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided
  • 1 (7 oz / 200 g) package of lady fingers
  • 1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, divided
  • optional: berries and mint leaves on top

Method

  1. In a large bowl, beat the coconut cream until it forms a whipped cream texture. You can also do this in a food processor.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the coconut sugar into the mascarpone cheese. Then, fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped coconut cream. Make sure to gently fold the mascarpone into the coconut cream, don't mix it or you won't get the right texture.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the coffee, kahlua, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon together. Dunk half of the lady fingers into the coffee mixture, making sure the liquid soaks through. We like to hold each lady finger into the coffee/kahlua mixture and count to 2.
  4. Put the soaked lady fingers on the bottom of a glass 8×8 inch baking dish. Top the lady fingers with half of the coconut cream mascarpone mixture. Add 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 Tablespoon cocoa powder on top of the cream mixture. Soak the other half of the lady fingers in the coffee mixture, and put on top of the cream layer in the dish. Top with the remaining cream mixture and smooth it out. Top with 1/2 Tablespoon cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and berries + mint leaves.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight.

Notes

  • When dunking the lady fingers into the coffee mixture, count to 2 or 3 so they get soaked but not too soaked.
  • When sprinkling the cocoa powder and cinnamon on top of each cream layer, use a small strainer. This ensures there are no clumps.
  • Refrigerate the tiramisu overnight if you can. The flavor is best the longer the flavors melt together.
  • Adding the berries and mint really makes this tiramisu dessert that much better.
